White House reportedly testing LG and Samsung smartphones

BlackBerry(s bbry) might still be in free fall, but the company has long remained a fixture as the mobile device maker of choice for the White House. That might be changing, though, according to The Wall Street Journal. The White House has reportedly been testing devices from LG and Samsung.

President Barack Obama currently uses a modified BlackBerry smartphone, and BlackBerry has been providing devices to the U.S. government for over 10 years. But according to a Defense Department spokesman, “We can confirm that the White House Communications Agency, consistent with the rest of the Department of Defense, is piloting and using a variety of mobile devices.”

According to the Journal’s source, the devices being tested include phones from LG and Samsung. LG told the Journal it wasn’t aware of any testing, while a Samsung spokesman said, “We have seen strong interest from the government sector and…
